Bio

María Teresa "Tere" Marichal Lugo is a multifaceted Puerto Rican artist renowned for her contributions to children's television and literature. Born in Yauco in 1956, she is the daughter of Spanish artist Carlos Marichal and Puerto Rican educator Flavia Lugo. Marichal gained widespread recognition through her character "María Chuzema," hosting the beloved children's program "La Casa de María Chuzema" for 25 years starting in 1987 on Puerto Rico's PBS-affiliated Canal 6. An accomplished writer, she has authored over 31 books in both Spanish and English, and her theatrical works have been performed internationally. Marichal's dedication to storytelling and education has left an indelible mark on Puerto Rican culture.
