Bio

Pedro Julio Serrano is a prominent Puerto Rican human rights activist, renowned for his unwavering advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice. Born in Ponce in 1974, Serrano pursued communications studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. In 1998, he made history as the first openly gay and HIV+ individual to run for public office in Puerto Rico. Serrano founded "Puerto Rico Para Todes" in 2003, a nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving equal rights and inclusion for LGBTQ+ communities. His relentless efforts have led to significant legislative advancements, including the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment. Serrano's activism has been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive society, earning him recognition both locally and internationally.
