Bio
Nilda Maria Comas is a renowned Puerto Rican sculptor, acclaimed for her masterful works that blend classical techniques with contemporary themes. Born in San Juan in 1950, Comas pursued her passion for art, earning accolades for her sculptures exhibited internationally. In a historic achievement, she became the first Hispanic woman to have her work included in the National Statuary Hall Collection at the U.S. Capitol, with her statue of civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune unveiled in 2022. Comas's dedication to her craft and her trailblazing accomplishments have significantly contributed to the representation and celebration of Latino artists in the global art community.
