Bio

Born Linda Viera Caballero on March 9, 1969, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, La India moved to the South Bronx, New York City, shortly after her birth. Her grandmother affectionately nicknamed her "La India" due to her dark features and long, straight, black hair. She began her music career at 16, initially joining the Latin freestyle group TKA. Transitioning to salsa, she released her debut Spanish-language album, "Llego La India via Eddie Palmieri," in 1992, produced by Eddie Palmieri. Her powerful voice and emotive performances earned her the title "La Princesa de la Salsa." Throughout her career, she has collaborated with legends like Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. In 2016, she won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album for "Intensamente La India Con Canciones De Juan Gabriel." La India's contributions have been pivotal in bringing salsa music to international audiences and inspiring future generations of Latin artists.
