Bio

Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, born in 1942 in East Harlem, New York City, is a prominent scholar, educator, and cultural activist of Afro-Puerto Rican descent. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from New York University and a Ph.D. in African Studies from Temple University. Throughout her career, Dr. Vega has been dedicated to promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of African and Afro-Latino communities. She served as the second director of El Museo del Barrio in 1971 and later founded the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) in 1976, an organization committed to linking communities of African descent. Dr. Vega is also an accomplished author, with works focusing on African spirituality and Afro-Latino identity. Her lifelong commitment to cultural equity and education has made a lasting impact on the recognition and appreciation of African diasporic cultures.
